Coastal Support Services

Coastal Support Services is happy to be the new supported living service on the Mendocino Coast for individuals with developmental challenges. They echo the PFI mission to provide opportunities for clients to participate fully in the community. The individuals served live in their own homes or apartments. Approximately 50% of all Parents and Friends, Inc. clients live in their own apartments.

The Coastal Support team supports clients to be as self-sufficient as possible through different levels of interdependence. Working with the clients and their circle- of-support teams, a plan is developed to best serve each person's "important-to and important-for" goals and needs. "Important-to" examples include budgeting, shopping, enhancing social skills - even going on a dream vacation. "Important-for" supports usually center around medical/dental needs and living safely in the community.

The service includes a 24/7 on-call number for urgent needs after hours, during holidays and on weekends. Urgent needs vary from being locked out of an apartment to medical concerns.
